ERRORS RELATING TO PARELLELISM

 In examinations there are questions  relating to sentences of  errors of different types. One of these is also those of  parellelism. 
Parellilsm means use of  similar format of grammer  in a sentence, as one part of a sentence is compared with the other. In such cases, a noun should be compared with a noun, a verb with a verb or an adjective with an adjective.  These parts are joined by conjunctions. 

In parellelism, the elements of a sentence should be in the same grammatical form. They are generally joined by conjunctions 

and, but, not only....but also, either.. or, neither.. nor.

Here are some examples of such sentences on the pattern of competitive examinations.

EXERCISE  No 1.

1. If the company wants to progress, (1) it will have to revise its recruitment policy, (2) impart technical training to its employees and (3) a performance based promotion policy too will have to be introduced (4). No error (5).

2. Before attempting the question, (1) read the passage carefully, (2)  try to find out the central idea of the paragraph (3) and how the conclusion of discussion has been drawn also be identified. (4) No error (5).

3. A good educational institution should not only have qualified staff (1)  but also impart adequate guidance to its students, (2) their active participation in various activities and should (3) inculcate the habit of  independent learning among them(4). No error (5).

4. For becoming a successful administrator (1) it is not only to be technically competent (2) but also strong in communication skills (3) and the ability to  work effectively with the team (4). No error (5).

5. The main objective of constituting this committee was to (1) investigate the allegations levelled against him, (2) ascertain whether any regulaions were violated and (3) recommending appropriate disciplinary action against him (4). No error (5).
