FUTURE TENSE -- FUTURE PERFECT CONTINUOUS TENSE --- EXPLANATION WITH EXAMPLES AND EXERCISES

FUTURE  PERFECT CONTINUOUS TENSE


This tense is used to express that an action will continue for sometime in future and will not  be complete. In this tense time limit for continuity of activity is also given. This tense is scarcely used for practical purposes these days.


 In this tense 'Shall or will' and 'have been' and first  form of verb with 'ing' are used. For expressing time 'since or 'for' is used.

 For example : He will have been taking exercise for two hours tomorrow.

 

AFFIRMATIVE SENTENCES

In this tense with -- shall or will +  have been +  first form of verb & ing  is used. For showing time -- Since or for is used. 

Since is used for a point of time & For is used for duration of time i.e. Since morning, For two hours.


For Example: 
  • We shall  have been living here for the last two years.
  • The boys will have been making a noise since 1 p.m.
  • You will have been doing your job for three years.




NEGATIVE SENTENCES

In these sentences with ‘shall or will + have + not + been  + first form of verb & ing  is used. For showing time  --- Since or For is used.


For Example: 
  • I shall not  have been reading my book for two hours.
  • You will not have been singing since morning.
  • They will not have been doing their work since morning.




INTERROGATIVE SENTENCES


In these sentences--- shall or will  is used before subject. 

And - have + not + been + first form of verb & ing  is used. 

To express time 'Since' or 'for' is used.


For Example: 
  • Shall we   have been playing a match since morning?
  • Will you have been taking this medicine for a week?
  • Will he have been staying with you for a year?


Similarly in interrogative negative sentences ‘shall or will’ is used before subject and not & have been is used before first  form of verb and ‘ing’  in the sentence. 

To express time 'For' or 'Since' is used.

For Example :
  • Shall we  not have been entertaining the guests since morning?
  • Will you not have been flying kites since morning ?
  • Will the birds not have been flying in  the sky for two hours?

In case of interrogative sentences with words starting with 'wh' , the word with 'wh' is used  in the beginning of the sentence followed be shall or will have been and first form of verb with 'ing' . 

In negative sentences 'not' is used after shall or will.

In case of 'Who', shall or will have been or shall or will not have been are used after the word 'Who'.

Following sentences will clear the point.

Why will the child have been crying for such a long time?
For how many years will you have been living in this house?
Who will have been teaching the students for the last two hours?

Uses of Future Perfect Continuous Tense

The Future Perfect Continuous Tense expresses an action as being in progress over a period of time that will end at some point in the future.

By next month, I shall have been completing my studies.

FUTURE TENSE ---- FUTURE PERFECT TENSE --- EXPLANATION WITH EXERCISES




FUTURE  PERFECT TENSE

Future Perfect Tense shows that the action will take place in the time to come. It is used in simple sentences as well as in complex sentences. In complex sentences there are two actions relating to each other, one occurring before the other. The sentence relating to the action taking place earlier is in Present Indefinite tense and the sentence of the later action is in Future Perfect Tense.

In Future perfect tense 'Shall or Will followed by have and third form of verb are used.

 For example I shall have finished my work.

AFFIRMATIVE SENTENCES


In this tense with ‘shall or will’, have & third form of verb is used.


 For Example: 

  • I shall  have taken my meals.
  • The teacher will have marked attendance by then.
  • Boys will have won the match.
  • You will have finished your work by tomorrow evening.



NEGATIVE SENTENCES


In this sentence with ‘shall or will’, not   have & third form of verb is used.


For Example: 
  • I shall not have taken the examination.
  • Boys will not have won the match.
  • You will not have reached the school by 7 A.M.
  • The thief will not have escaped before the police reached there.



INTERROGATIVE SENTENCES


In this sentence ‘shall or will’,is used before subject. have & third form of verb is used.

Sign of interrogation is used at the end of the sentence.


For Example: 

We
  • Shall we have rented our house to them?
  • Will you have met the teacher?
  • Will the boys have finished their work ?

  • Will you not have joined your friends?
  • Shall we not have crossed the river ?

Whose entry will they have selected for prize?

Why will they have not gone out for a walk?

Which boy will have obtained the maximum marks?

Where will you have got this book?

How many lessons will she have learnt before we reach there?

Why will you have not accomplished the job before I return?

FUTURE TENSE -- FUTURE CONTINUOUS TENSE ---EXPLANATION WITH EXAMPLES AND EXERCISES


FUTURE CONTINUOUS TENSE


This tense denotes that action will continue in future time and will not be complete. Time for continuation or completion of action is not given. It is also called Future Imperfect  Tense or Future Progressive Tense.


In this tense 'Shall' or 'Will' and 'be' with first form of verb with 'ing' are used. 
For example : 

Children will be playing in the garden.

I shall be waiting for you.



AFFIRMATIVE SENTENCES


In this tense with ‘shall or will’,' be' is used. First form of verb and ‘ing’ is used.


For Example: 
  • We shall be taking our examination.
  • You will be leaving for your home tomorrow.
  • Boys will be purchasing their new books.



NEGATIVE SENTENCES

In this tense ‘shall  or will’  followed by ‘not’ and 'be' & first form of verb with ‘ing’ is used.


For Example :
  • I shall  not be taking my meals.
  • We shall not be going to their house.
  • You will not be combing your hair.
  • Boys will not be making any mischief.



INTERROGATIVE SENTENCES


In this sentence ‘shall or will’ is used before subject with be and first form of verb with ‘ing’. Interrogative sign will be used at the end of the  sentence.


For Example :
  • Will you be going to  your office ?
  • Shall I be participating in the feat?
  • Will she be purchasing her clothes?



Similarly in interrogative negative sentences ‘shall or will’ is used before subject and 'not' & 'be' is  used before first  form of verb with 'ing'  in the sentence.

  • Will the boys not be attending this meeting?
  • Will Mohan not be taking his meals?

FUTURE TENSE USAGE --- FUTURE INDEFINITE TENSE --EXPLANATION WITH EXAMPLES AND EXERCISES

FUTURE TENSE 

In Future Tense work is referred to be done in time to come.

Some grammarians do not consider it as a tense. It is referred as FUTURE TIME REFERENCE.

Future Time in English can be expressed in the following ways:

1. Simple Present Tense.
2. Present Continuous Tense.
3. To be/ be to
4. Be about to
5. Be going to


---- Simple Present Indefinite Tense can be used to express a series of planned actions in the future particularly a journey.

His office starts at 10 a.m.
He goes to see her tomorrow.

----- When the planned action for future is definite, Present Continuous Tense is used.
Boys are taking their examination next Monday.
Guests are coming next week.

----To be or Be to is used to express necessity or duty or something planned for the future.

I am supposed to be there tomorrow at 8 a.m.
I am to finish this book by tomorrow.

----- 'Be about to' is used to express events or actions likely to happen Ina very short time.

We are about to leave for his office.
The train is about to leave.
The guests are about to reach.

----- 'Be going to' is used to express events or actions that happen in the future as a result of present intention or situation.

It is going to rain heavily this winter.
She is not going to'help you.
Prices are not going to be down in recent future.

To express Future Time modals 'Shall or Will' are used.


Use of Future Indefinite Tense :

Future Indefinite Tense is used to :

----express an action that is yet to take place :

Boys will play a match tomorrow.

----express an action of habitual nature.

I shall remind you again and again.

---express the speaker's opinion for something to be done the future. Verbs like believe, know, suppose, think etc. are used in it. Adverbs like perhaps, possibly, surely etc. are also used.

I think they will not come today. I suppose that he will not help you. He will surely reach in time.

--- Shall is used with the first person to express an offer or suggestion.

Shall I open the door?                                           Which dress shall I wear?

---Will is used with the first person to express willingness, determination etc.

I will do it myself.   I will help her under all circumstances. I will not meet her again.


FUTURE INDEFINITE TENSE


In this tense work is done in future time.  Continuity or completion of activity is not mentioned nor considered. The action is to  be in the time to come. So words relating to future time like tomorrow, next day, ensuing month or coming Monday etc are used in this tense.  


For Example :
  • I shall go to Delhi.
  • John will start his factory.
  • Boys will not play a match.



AFFIRMATIVE SENTENCES


In Positive sentences helping verbs 'shall or will' with the main verb is used. 

First person. 

In affirmative sentence, In case of First person singular and  plural ‘Shall’ with first form of verb is used. 

For Second & third Person singular and plural ‘will’ with first form of verb is used.


For Example :
  • His brother will appear in the examination next year.
  • I shall pay all my debts within two months.
  • Girls will sing a song,
  • You will go to your office in the morning.



NEGATIVE SENTENCES


In negative sentences with ‘shall or will’ not (never) is used before first form of verb. 


For example :
  • I shall not waste my time.
  • She will not cook food.
  • You will not join us.



INTERROGATIVE SENTENCES


In Interrogative sentences shall or will is used before Subject. First form of verb is used. Words like 'never or 'ever' is also used.

Interrogative sign is used at the end  of the sentence.


For Example: 
  • Shall we travel by bus?
  • Will you fetch me a glass of water?
  • Will they go out for a morning walk?


In case of Interrogative sentences starting with words 'wh' , the sentence starts with the word 'wh' followed by will or shall , subject and first form of verb . The sentence ends with a sign of interrogation mark. Examples will clarify the point.


Examples :

Who will bell the cat?

Which boy will lead the team?

Where will you go during vacation?

When will the guests arrive?

How will you  solve this problem?

Why will she not come here?

Whom will the team elect captain?
What will you pay for this?



In certain conditional cases two actions connected with each other are to take place in future. In such cases the sentence relating to earlier action is in Present Indefinite Tense whereas the sentence of the action taking place later is in Future Indefinite Tense.


 For example :

If it rains I shall not go to office tomorrow.

If you permit I shall take your brother along with me.

A young, educated but unemployed boy decides to leave his house to find out a job for himself. He starts his journey for another town. On his way, after going for some miles, he feels tired. He decides to take some rest. On the side of the road, under a shady tree, he lies on grass. Soon he falls asleep. After a while, an old rich couple having no child of their own, passes that way. The young boy appears very handsome and sweet- natured to them. The old lady expresses her desire to her husband to adopt the young boy as their son. The old man too wants to have a successor but he rejects the idea. Both of them move away. Then there come two young girls talking with each other. They  catch sight of the sleeping young boy. He appears very handsome to them. One of them tells the other her wish to marry the young man. But the other girl rejects the idea because of the whereabouts of the young man being  not known. Both of them go away without taking any decision. Soon thereafter, two scoundrels appear there. They find the sleeping young boy of a very rich family. They think the boy having much money with him. They decide to kill the boy and loot his money. But at that time a loud noise of some boys talking is heard. They appear to be coming towards that side. Fearing of being caught those scoundrels run away without doing anything. At this time the young man also wakes up. He feels having enjoyed a good nap. He gets up.  Unaware of all that happened during his nap he starts his further journey.
